Another successful year for the Foreign Investors Council in Croatia in which membership doubled

Zagreb, 8 March – General Assembly of the Foreign Investors Council in Croatia was held on INA premises to present the results of the Council activities in 2016. To put the results before the public were the President, Mladen Fogec, and the Secretary General Igor Zgrabljić, the latter pointing out in particular the membership growth in double digits in respect of 2015, along with a series of successfully implemented projects directed at promotion of concrete measures to improve the investment and the overall business climate in the Republic of Croatia.

A new addition to the Board of Directors is Mr. Burak Baykan, Regional Director of the Turkish Doğuş Group, which in the seven years of its presence in Croatia invested more than EUR 250 million and provided jobs for about 350 Croatian citizens. Doğuş Group started their investment in Croatia with the acquisition of D-Marin Mandalina in Šibenik, followed by acquisition of D-Marin Dalmacija in Sukošan, D-Marin Borik in Zadar and the 10.87% participation in the ownership structure of ACI. D-Resort Šibenik, the first Doğuş Group Greenfield investment in Croatia, worth 25 million euros, opened for business in 2015. In the segment of luxury tourism Doğuş Group owns the most exclusive and most awarded Croatian boutique hotel, Villa Dubrovnik. The largest Doğuş Group ongoing project in Croatia is the development of the first five-star hotel in the centre of Zadar, which will operate under the name of Hyatt Regency Zadar Maraska. The hotel will comprise a residential complex and a commercial complex. Upon completion of this project, the total Doğuş Group investment in Croatia will grow to EUR 350 million.

A major investment conference to be held in June this year was announced at the General Assembly meeting. The conference will present the best examples of attracting foreign investment in the countries from the region, and will be a continuation of the last year's highly successful “International FDI Forum” which presented the world's best practices in this field.

Investment plans of members and future projects that will be focused at creating strategic partnerships with the government and other institutions of the Republic of Croatia were also on the Assembly agenda, as well as ways to encourage measures for further development of a stable and predictable regulatory framework and fore more effective government bodies.
